Aid now available for recent storm, flooding

Damages incurred from the recent severe storms and flooding may be eligible for individual assistance, according to state and federal disaster officials.

“The incident period, or the time frame during which damages must have occurred to be eligible for assistance, is still open,” said FEMA Federal Coordinating Officer Justo “Tito” Hernandez.

“That means damages from these recent storms may be eligible, just like flood damage from earlier this spring.” FEMA can pay residents for uninsured damages that keep them from living safely in their home. Response and recovery operations are still ongoing, and those who have now experienced damage from the recent round of severe thunderstorms and flash flooding are encouraged to apply for disaster assistance.

Residents may register for assistance by calling FEMA toll-free at 800-621- 3362 or 800-462-7585 for the speech-or hearingimpaired. The registration line is open daily from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. until further notice.

Registration can also be done online at disasterassistance. gov. Homeowners, renters and businesses of all sizes may also be eligible for Small Business Administration low-interest disaster loans. For more information, call SBA at 800-659-2955, or 800-877- 8339, email disaster customerservice@ sba.gov, or visit the Web site at sba.gov.

“We want to ensure everyone receives assistance they may be eligible for,” said Greg Wilz, deputy director of the North Dakota Department of Emergency Services.

“Even if they’ve already registered, and even if they’ve already received payment for previous damages, we’re encouraging people to contact FEMA and provide an update so another home inspection can be done if needed.”
