Mandan Historical Society showing brand new exhibits

In 2004, the Mandan Historical Society was formed to preserve the great history of Mandan. The society has many exhibits on display at the Mandan Historical Society Museum, along with new exhibits that are being shown for the first time this year.

“New in the museum this year is an exhibit of the history for all the churches in Mandan,” said Bill Engelter, who is serving as treasurer for the board of directors.

“You can also look at any old newspapers from when the paper started in 1920 until the Pioneer newspaper was changed to the Mandan News,” he said.

Anything from national history, including an exhibit of the 16th president of the Unites States, Abraham Lincoln, to an exhibit of Benjamin Franklin’s house burning down, are on display, along with local exhibits including important history from Mandan 50 years ago, a Mandan high school class of 1959 exhibit and a World War II exhibit.

To view the history that is in the Mandan Historical Society, the museum is open from 10 a.m. until noon, or any other day that the office happens to be open. The museum has been located at the former beanery building at 411 W. Main St. in Mandan since July 2004.

The historical society holds meetings on the fourth Thursday of every month except for November and December. The meetings are held in the Conference Room at the former beanery.
