Former mayor hospitalized
Former Mandan Mayor Ken LaMont received a biopsy last Wednesday, as it was recently discovered that he has at least two malignant cancerous growths on his lungs, and the cancer is in his spine and almost all other bones.
The cancerous growths at this time are incurable. The plan is to address the cancer aggressively with radiation and chemotherapy.
He is currently a patient at Medcenter One in Bismarck. Ken’s daughter, Jill Goetz, has built a website, which will provide frequent updates on his condition and progress.
In one update on Nov. 22, Goetz wrote, “Dad’s cancer is not a curable disease; however, it is controllable. What that means is we can slow the progress of the disease with chemo and some radiation on the tumors that are causing the most pain. He has bone cancer which has spread to the lung. There is a tumor on every vertebrae in his spine and neck.”
If you would like to see the updates and send him your well wishes, you can do so online at caringbridge.org/visit/kenlamont.
Goetz said LaMont will begin chemotherapy the Monday after Thanksgiving.
“You all are aware of Dad’s attitude and spirit and that has not wavered,” Goetz wrote in an update. “He has his smile on and I am reminded of how brave and strong he is every time I look at him.”
