Mandan speech team takes first in weekend doubleheader
The Mandan High Speech team competed in two invitational tournaments over this past weekend.
Friday was the Shiloh Christian Invitational, and on Saturday Bismarck St. Mary’s hosted its annual tourney.
Mandan won first place in both tournaments, which had over 25 Class A and B schools participating in the competition.
The Mandan results are as follows:
Shiloh Invitational
Speech to Persuade – Jonathan Wanner, second. Speech to Inform – Lindsey Ellefson-third. Impromptu – Ashley Barrios, second; Erika Berger, third; and Jacob Blotter, fifth. Storytelling – Cara Hurdelbring, eighth. Programmed Reading – Lindsey Ellefson, third; Ashley Barrios, eighth. Serious Duo – Katie McConnell and Jeff Jung, first; Lindsery Ellefson and Hannah Andring, sixth; McKenna Foley and Kayde Schwab, eighth. Dramatic – Jonathan Wanner, third, and first in Poetry. Humorous – Scott Alm, fourth. Serious – Lindsey Ellefson, third; Hannah Andring, fourth; Jonathan Wanner, sixth; Cara Hurdelbring, ninth. Humorous Duo – Jeff Jung and Shelby Johnson, first.
Bismarck St. Mary’s
Dramatic – Jonathan Wanner, first. Serious Duo – Katie McConnell and Jeff Jung, first; McKenna Foley and Kayde Schwab, sixth. Speech to Entertain – Katie Jacobson, first; Shelby Johnson, fourth; Hannah Andring, fifth. Serious Prose – Hannah Andring, first; Lindsey Ellefson, second; Jonathan Wanner, fourth; Kendal Newcomb, sixth. Impromptu – Jake Blotter, fifth; Chad Brinkman, sixth; Ashley Barrios, eighth. Extemp Speaking – Jacob Blotter, fifth; Ashley Barrios, sixth; Chad Brinkman, eighth. Speech to Inform – Lindsey Ellefson, second. Humorous Duo – Dominic Barrios and Suzy Frenzel, eighth. Storytelling – Cara Hurdelbring, fifth. Humorous Prose – Kendal Newcomb, first; Dominic Barrios, fourth.
Those MHS speech members also competing were Nathan Long, Cody LaVallie, Dani Liddle, Ina Zum Hinks, Carter Tomac, Liz Tessmer, Jayden Barth, Brent Schaff, Hannah Tibke, Hannah Fishbeck, Morgan Brinkman, Solvei Stenslie, Steph Moore, Shiyel Rittenback and Shaina Hovrud.
Mandan will be competing at the Dickinson State Tourney this coming Saturday, and will be competing at Dickinson on Friday, March 12, and the I-94 Richardton on March 13. Monday, March 15, will see Mandan competing at the Minot State Invitational Tourney.
The Mandan speech team is coached by Patrick Pins, Annette Bender and Natalie Eraas.
