Student government names Van Dyke Senator of the Month
Minot State University’s Student Government Association named Derek Van Dyke as Senator of the Month for December and January at its Jan. 25 meeting. Van Dyke, who is a senior from Mandan, came to MSU to study broadcasting.
”I became involved with SGA because I wanted to make a difference on the campus,” Van Dyke said. “I have made many great friends, and SGA is a perfect way to give back to Minot State University.”
Van Dyke is not only involved on campus, but he is engaged within the Minot community by giving reports to the Minot Area Chamber of Commerce for the student government. He is the weather personality on KMSU’s Inside/Out, the campus news station on Channel 19, Thursdays at 5 p.m. He is also a residence hall director and a member of Media Ink, the broadcasting program’s student club.
SGA is the governing body for Minot State students and functions as the chief law and policymaking organization for the student body. It consists of nine executive officers, 20 senators from each college of study, intramurals and the Student Activities Committee.
