Morton County cracking down on drunk driving Labor Day weekend
The Morton County Sheriff’s Department will be conducting saturation patrols now through Monday, Sept. 6, as part of a nationwide enforcement campaign for Labor Day called “Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest.”
Increased enforcement will take place during this time due to extra funding given to law enforcement agencies across North Dakota from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
“The Morton County Sheriff’s Department believes that saturation patrol efforts are effective in reducing the number of fatalities and the number of car crashes in the area where patrol is active,” said Morton County Sheriff Dave Shipman.
In 2009, 40 percent of motor vehicle fatalities were alcohol-related in North Dakota. The county Sheriff’s Department hopes to decrease this percentage with the additional patrolling.
