Students named Mathcounts finalists
Ninety-two students from area schools in Burleigh and Morton County competed in a college-level math contest that could earn them a chance to advance to the State Mathcounts March 19 at the Ramkota Hotel in Bismarck.
In Morton County, Flasher, Christ the King and Mandan Middle School placed first, second and third respectively. The top three teams from Burleigh County are Horizon, Wachter and Simle.
The Flasher School team members are Vaida Crofutt, Mike Hatzenbuhler, Mary Hintz and Andrew Schafer. Anna Frohlich, Spencer Kraft, Erik Porter and Alexis Tapia are the Christ the King team. Mandan Middle School’s team is composed of Alexandra Belahlavek, James Haaland, Leslie Miller and Lawrence Pierce.
The top four individual trophy winners from Morton County are Andrew Schafer, Lawrence Pierce, Mike Hatzenbuhler and from Hebron School, Devin Sardelli.
Christ the King School was the site of the Chapter Mathcounts Competition, which was held Feb. 2.
The contest is sponsored by the N.D. Society of Professional Engineers and the N.D. Association of County Superintendents.
