A wreath for every gravesite
The Bismarck Composite Squadron Civil Air Patrol said that for the first time, all headstones at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery will have wreaths placed during the Wreaths Across America Ceremony.
This year’s ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Veterans Cemetery south of Mandan.
Lt. Col. Kevin Iverson, event coordinator, said the goal was to raise funds for more than 5,000 wreaths.
In a release, Iverson said it’s also believed this is the first year the more than 800 Wreaths Across America sites in the country will all have wreaths during the holiday season.
The public is encouraged to attend the wreath-placing ceremony. Car pooling is advised because of limited parking spaces available during the winter months.
Wreaths Across America began in 1992; in 2006 the Civil Air Patrol joined the effort.
