Earlier this month, the Mandan FFA Chapter held it’s annual Awards Banquet to honor the chapter’s accomplishments and highlights throughout the 2013-2014 school year. Members were recognized for their successes through their activities throughout the year. They were again congratulated for their accomplishments at the state contest in June and for their performance in the Winter Career Development contests.
The chapter’s advisors, Mr. Zubke and Mrs. Reiter, presented several other awards for outstanding individuals in each age group for their involvement in this year’s activities. The Star Greehand award, presented to an outstanding freshman, was given to not one, but three freshman: Hannah Gress, Jameson Ellingson and Dylan Fischer. The Outstanding Sophomore award was presented to Stetson Ellingson. The Outstanding Junior award was given to Cullen Gress. Finally, like the Star Greenhand award, the Outstanding Senior award was presented to multiple seniors, or the seniors on the officer team. The seniors were: Hunter Kleinjan, Tanner Gress, Jessica Fleck, Tessa Keller and Sydni Schmidt. Another high honor that was given out was the Star Chapter Farmer award, which was presented to Tessa Keller.
In addition to rewarding students for their dedication to the chapter, the Honorary FFA Member award is given to an individual whose assistance to the chapter has made a large impact on the members. This year, this award was given to Sara Gustin, a news reporter for KFYR, a past Mandan FFA member, and a mentor for the chapter.
The Awards Banquet was only made possible thanks to numerous donations from a list of charitable sponsors to the FFA. The sponsors donate funds for plaques, scholarships, and activities throughout the upcoming year. The sponsors that donated are as follows: Northern Plains Equipment, Farm Credit Services of Mandan, Gate City Bank, Starion Financial, Butler CAT, Chesak Seed House, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Kalvoda, Mr. and Mrs. Milo Kalvoda, Gartner Seeds, Nathan and Heather Boehm, Brandi Boehm, HUB International, Interstate Western Works, Jeff and Renae Kostelecky, John and Gloria Steckler, Keller’s Broken Heart Ranch, Titan Machinery, Midway Diesel and Electric, Tri-Energy Coop, Butcher Block, Glenn Stastny, Midway Machining, Dakota Community Bank & Trust, Thomas R.
