4-H’ers from across North Dakota met in Bismarck to compete in the State Junior and Senior Consumer Choices contests on July 26. Consumer Choices requires youth to make informed decisions on consumer-related classes and then tell the judge their reasons for ranking the classes.

The 4-H Consumer Choices Contest helps members practice making decisions by matching knowledge, skills and abilities against those of others. They learn to rank articles or products over others based on standards and quality.

The 4-H’ers ranked two classes each of luggage, sunglasses and breakfast cereals, and then gave reasons for their rankings on one of each division.

The top senior team was Morton County; team members include Rachel Goettle, Dominick Goettle, Renae Tokach, Tyrza Hoines and Kirsten Presler.

Individuals from Morton County placing in the top 10 were Rachel Goettle, first, Dominick Goettle, second, and Renae Tokach, ninth.

The Senior Team will represent North Dakota in Denver January 2012 at the National Contest.

The Morton County Junior Team placed fourth overall. Team members include Dalton Sougstad, Mikayla Schirado, Brandon Hoines, Savannah Samuels and Kathryn Goettle.

Individuals from Morton County placing in the top 10 included Brandon Hoines, who placed sixth.
