Area taxidermists win awards
Several local residents were named for awards during the 29th annual North Dakota Taxidermists Association Wildlife Art Show and Expo, which was held at the Ramada Inn in Bismarck March 8 to 10.
Nevada Miller, of Mandan, won several awards for his life size mount of a Nyala, an African antelope. Miller won for best life size mammal, best exotic and also won best of show runner up.
Gary Larson, of New Salem, and Derek Larson, of Mandan, along with James Benson, or East Grand Forks, were awarded first place in the collective artist division, for their life size black bear. This division honors groups of more than one person show who worked on the mount. Derek Larson also won first place for best pheasant.
Joe Roll, of Mandan, won in the best fish category for his walleye mount, and also won in the category of best fish with lifetone paints.
