Benefit planned for Nelson

A benefit will be held for Heather Heid Nelsen in New Salem on Saturday, Jan. 12, from 4 to 7 p.m.

Nelson grew up in New Salem and lives in Bemidji, Minn., with her husband Tim and two daughters, Lindsay and Taylor. Two days after her 38th birthday, she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. She started chemotherapy which was followed up by surgery and additional chemo and radiation. Shortly after the nine months of treatment, tests revealed that the cancer spread and more treatments would be needed. Nelson rose to the challenge and is now busy continuing to fight the cancer.

Nelson and her husband are making numerous trips to Chicago for the treatment, and any money raised at the benefit will go to help cover their expenses.

The benefit will be held at New Salem City Auditorium. There will be live music and entertainment, kids games, a bake sale, silent auction and big ticket items for sale.
