Project Safe Send
Project Safe Send helps North Dakotans legally dispose of unusable pesticides. This program is safe, simple and free. The program accepts any pesticides (herbicides, insecticides, rodenticides and fungicides) that are old, unusable or banned. The program is open to farmers, ranchers, pesticide dealers and applicators, government agencies, homeowners and the general public.
The collected pesticides are carefully packed and shipped out of state for incineration. Project Safe Send is funded through the fees paid by pesticide manufactures to register their products in North Dakota.
Check all storage areas for any unusable pesticides and set them aside for Project Safe Send. If the containers are deteriorating or leaking, pack them in larger containers and add absorbent materials. Free heavy-duty plastic bags are available from the North Dakota Department of Agriculture.
If you have more than 1,000 pounds of pesticides, you should pre-register with the N.D. Department of Agriculture by calling 701-328-2231 or toll free 800-242-7535. A maximum of 20,000 pounds per participant will be accepted. Please note: Pesticide rinsate, empty containers of paint or oil are not accepted at the collection sites.
