Ellen Huber: Two local businesses expanding

Two local businesses are in the midst of plans to expand square footage.

Mocha and More is moving from 111 Sixth Ave. N.W. to 306 W. Main St. in December. Owner Nancy Phelps plans to add a bakery and increase the inventory of antiques. The basement will have a meeting room for use by local groups and organizations. Phelps is exploring ways of getting orders to customers on the run such as through text or call-ahead orders with curbside delivery. Tentative hours are 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call 751-2275.

Capital Credit Union, located at 600 E. Main St., earlier acquired two neighboring properties and recently removed and demolished buildings on the properties to accommodate an expansion in 2011. More detailed plans are forthcoming.

Lauinger Accounting, which had been located at 608 E. Main St., moved into a larger office at 718 W. Main St. this summer. The other property, 610 E. Main St., had been vacant for more than a year.

Most economic and jobs growth in communities occurs through expansions such as these. Let’s congratulate and thank these businesses for their continued operations and investment in Mandan!
