The 108 Mile Rummage Sale – June 7
Before there were Highways,
By Delores Klusmann
The Old Red/Old Ten Scenic Byway committee is busy organizing the sale, donating radio, print and Facebook advertising and providing logo balloons to “mark” each registered sale location. The advertised sale hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., local time; accommodating two counties and two time zones. Friday, May 30, is the registration deadline to have your sale included on each town’s map. There is no fee to register. If you have not registered your Rummage Sale, please do so in the next couple weeks.
Packets of information including maps of the town showing the rummage sale site, the Old Red Trail brochure and red logo balloons will be given to each household that is having a sale.
Scenic Byways are located throughout the United States. I have been in Oregon the past several weeks and had the opportunity to drive a couple Scenic Byways. The Pacific Coast Scenic Byway traces the Oregon Coast along Highway 101 and is dotted with resort towns and a rugged rocky coastline. Many lighthouses are located along the way and the Oregon Coast is one of the most photographed regions in the nation.
Two other Scenic Byways that I drove were part of the West Cascades Scenic Byway and the Santiam Pass Scenic Byway. These Byways have lava fields, snowcapped peaks and rushing rivers. The giant pine trees form an umbrella effect over the highway. There are many hiking trails – sometimes the mountain peaks and lush forests cast beautiful shadows in the high mountain lakes.
It is always a joy to drive other Byways; however, let us not forget what our Old Red/Old Ten Scenic Byway has in the way of beauty, with the spacious prairies, buttes, creeks, small towns and historic settings. So, how about getting on the Trail on June 7, and hitting the Rummage Sales and participating in the events of the towns from Mandan to Dickinson.
Find all your treasures and register your Rummage Sale for June 7. Registrations must be in by May 30.
Until next time, Be Well, Do Good Work, and see you on Old Red.
