Locals win at state fair

The following local contestants were named winners in the 2013 North Dakota State Fair.

The individuals are listed by category, hometown and the award:

Needlework & Quilting Senior Division – Clara Ferderer, Mandan, senior division award. FFA Ag Mechanics Award – Matt Bahm, New Salem, overall best for restored, reconditioned. Market show – Taylor Heins, of New Salem, grand champion market steer. Kids pedal pull champion – Alex Brandt, of New Salem, 6-year-old division.

Dairy – Tayler Friesz, New Salem, boer goat ribbon winner; Baily Kunz, New Salem, purebred and full blood does champion. Kristie Klusmann, New Salem, Junior Best in 3 Heifer Group; Kristi Dol, New Salem, Best Udder and Dam and daughter class winner; Heidi J. Reiter, New Salem, grand and reserve female junior champion, junior best 3 heifer group, best herd of 5, and daughter and dam class winner; Kristi Klusmann, New Salem, grand and reserve junior Jersey female champion; junior best group of three heifers.

Junior heifer and steer show – Lazy RT Gelbvieh (Wyatt Schulte), of Hebron, champion Gelbvieh heifer; Kyle Schulte, of Hebron, reserve champion; Weston Kuhn, of New Salem, reserve champion.

FFA Dairy Awards – Brittany Doll, of New Salem, FFA Dairy Supreme Champion female overall and Grand Champion Holstein female; New Salem, top FFA Dairy Chapter.

FFA beef champion – Taylor Heins, of New Salem, overall top market beef, heavy weight market beef.

Swine – AJ Heins and Jaci Heins, both of New Salem, market barrows top winners; Jaci Heins and Kadey Holm, both of New Salem, Market Gilts top winners; AJ Heins, New Salem, market barrows top winner.

Sheep – Tayler Friez, New Salem, exhibitors flock, get of sire, corriedales, 10 ribbons.
