Railroad Museum hosting Father’s Day event

Fathers and families are invited to attend the Railroad Museum in Mandan for a special Father’s Day event. The museum will be open from 1 to 5 p.m.

The Railroad Museum has two new exhibits: the 1890 Steele Depot was received on Dec. 21, 2011, and the SW1 Diesel Switcher Engine, which was received on May 25, 2012. The SW1 is a 196,000-pound diesel built in May 1953, and was used at the Mandan Tesero Refinery.

There will also be “Live Steam” with train rides for boys and girls who bring their dads to the Railroad Museum. Ride the “Sky Line Railway” from Hensler, with Ed Duke as the engineer.

The Railroad Museum has several rolling stock, including a new 1937 NP Wooden Box Car, several new exhibits, and over 3,000 square feet of display of small and large railroad artifacts; a model train display and hundreds of old railroad photos.

The Railroad Museum is located off Interstate 94 at exit 152 in north Mandan. Proceed north on Old Red Trail to 37th Street. RR Museum signs are posted along the route.

Admission is free with donations being accepted. The museum in now open daily from 1 to 5 p.m. through Labor Day. For questions, call the museum at  663-9322.
