Here we are at Scenic Saturday, June 7
Before there were Highways
By Delores Klusmann
Here we are at Scenic Saturday. I’ve been talking about it for weeks and sometimes I thought it would never get here. Now that it is here, there are last minute things to do to get ready. First off, I want to say a big Thank You to all the people who have made this happen … from the committee members, the rummage sale participants, the folks who will be driving the trail on Saturday, the various towns people who are interested in the Old Red Trail, the folks doing the activities on Saturday, and the contributions in the last couple months from individuals, towns, and companies. I also want to thank any other person who has helped us along the way.
I’m anxious for Saturday, and I hope all of you are too. The towns along the Old Red Trail will be having their rummage sales and you will find a list of participants at each rummage sale location as well as at some gas stations or restaurants. There will be red balloons flying in front of each location.
There are an amazing number of sales along the Old Red Trail. There are over 60; yes 60 sales in the towns between Mandan and Dickinson. (There are 29 sales in New Salem alone) There are also all the sales in Mandan and Dickinson.
Don’t forget about the activities of the day with burgers at noon at the Museum in New Salem, grilled food in the park in Glen Ullin, grilled sausage and sweet rolls under the tent in Almont and other restaurants in the towns.
Taylor Nursery will be having a sidewalk sale, the Art Depot in Taylor will be open and Dacotah Clayworks in Hebron will have over 200 coleus plants for sale.
Along with the rummage sales, don’t forget to watch for the Talking Trail signs, all the Scenic Byway signs, the absolutely beautiful countryside and take advantage of seeing the wonderful communities along the Old Red Trail. See you on Super Saturday, June 7.
Be well. Do good work. And see you on Old Red.
