Holiday concert features local artist
Local artist, Jessie Veeder, is set to perform her Winter Songs Concert Series featuring holiday music and popular songs by the singer at the O.N.E. in Mandan on Friday, Dec. 13 at 7:30 p.m.
Veeder grew up in a ranch outside of Watford City.
“My dad is a folk musician and spurred my interest in performing. I was first on stage when I was 10 years old performing music with my dad. He still plays guitar and harmonizes with me,” said Veeder.
While attending Watford City High School, Veeder recorded her first album at 16 years old through the music program at the high school. Her album, “This Road,” is full of original folk music and took her to the next level of her career.
While attending the University of North Dakota for her degree in communications, Veeder hooked up with a booking agency in Nashville. This move made her known around colleges and coffee houses all over the country.
During her tour around America, Veeder found enough time to graduate from UND and put out a second album, “A Place to Belong.”
Veeder’s songs are reminiscent of her days growing up on the ranch.
“I sing and write songs about rural America. My music is based on songs that tell a story and paint a picture,” said Veeder.
After her release of “Jessie Veeder Live,” she returned home to the ranch
“I love being able to have a career in music and still be able to live out on the ranch and in a place I love.”
“Not only am I able to raise my family in western North Dakota, but I can also have my creative musical career, I’m fortunate and can blend the two,” said Veeder.
On her latest album, “Nothing’s Forever,” Veeder explains her music as a cross between Americana, alternative and folk. Her old, new and holiday songs will all be featured at the upcoming event.
Opening for Veeder is a string band, Frog Hollar, out of Bismarck.
Between catching up with friends and listening to holiday music, there will be food and drinks available as well as merchandise.
Veeder is a photographer and will have CDs, tee-shirts and other gift items available.
Other ventures beyond music and photography, Veeder has a popular blog called, “Meanwhile, back at the ranch…” at veederranch.com and is a weekly columnist for the Fargo Forum in her column “Coming Home,” and commentator of Prairie Public Radio.
