Archery range up and running

The flood of 2011 impacted a number of homes north of the archery range. The dirt on the range was used for saving those homes along the river. After the flood, the dirt was moved back onto the site, however not a lot of time went into it.

Archery enthusiasts that wanted to see improvements to the range approached Mandan Parks and Recreation. The Park District worked in coordination with community volunteers to plan, design, and construct the new archery range.

Much of the funding for the project came in the form of donations from local businesses and grant funding. Several businesses also offered donations of supplies and services. __

The range has 14 targets with distances varying from 10-60 yards. There is a designated shooting line with bow and arrow holders. The old shooting platforms have been torn down, and a new 16-ft platform has been constructed. The size of the parking lot has also been increased.

The community will benefit in a number of ways, but the most important is the added safety that the new range provides. This project is a perfect example of citizens telling the Park District what they want and helping make it happen. The Travis Hilfer Memorial Archery Range is located at 1900 Mandan Avenue NE.
