Bandshell summer concerts have begun
The annual Summer Concert Series kicked off this week, with free public concerts taking place every Monday to Thursday from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Dykshoorn Park on West Main Street.
The Summer Concert Series, now in its 17th year, will run through Aug. 16. Shows are held at the Dykshoorn Park bandshell, and are free to the public. This summer features local musicians showcasing a variety of music styles, with music for every age. People are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on.
West River Winds, a local community concert band directed by Ernie Borr, begins the concert series, and plays the Mondays of June 18 and 25. The Dacotah Lions Club, a non-profit organization, also sells burgers and bratwursts every Tuesday night from 5:30 to 8 p.m., so people can come for supper and stay to enjoy the music.
This upcoming week will feature these local performers: Monday, June 18 – West River Winds, concert band; Tuesday, June 19 – Steve Harmon, original folk and country music; Wednesday, June 20 – Kaleidoscope Pit Band, performing showtunes; Thursday, June 21 – rock band Stone Cloud Sunday.
Each year includes special event nights, including a watermelon night on Aug. 2, and an ice cream social on Aug. 16. Watermelon and ice cream will be offered to concertgoers for free.
The summer’s full schedule of the concert series can be viewed at musiciansassociation.org. All upcoming concerts will also be printed in the Meetings and Events section of The Mandan News.
