Jackie Buckley, North Dakota State University Extension Service Morton County agent, was given the State Meritorious Service Award during its spring conference March 31.

Buckley has been a major force in horticulture programming, presenting a weekly horticulture TV show for the past 10 years, writing numerous newspaper columns on horticulture and helping create the Dakota Gardening Expo, which attracted about 800 people in April 2010.

She also co-chairs the Mandan Community Garden Association and was instrumental in enlarging the community garden from 20 to 50 plots, and obtaining a permanent watering system.

Under her leadership and involvement, the Morton County Fairgrounds have made several improvements, including the construction of new dairy, horse, and poultry and rabbit barns.

Jackie’s 4-H and FFA livestock judging teams have advanced to national competition 15 times, and her 4-H range judging team placed third in national competition.

She has been a member of Epsilon Sigma Phi’s Upsilon Chapter for 25 years and in charge of Ag in the Classroom for Agri-International for 15 years.
