The 21st annual Buggies-n-Blues could draw thousands of people along with hundreds of classic cars to Main Street in Mandan on Saturday and Sunday. The gates will open at 4 p.m. on Saturday.

The event is co-sponsored by the Mandan Progress Organization and the Musicians Association.
Co-chairman Del Wetsch said up to 500 classic cars will be shown at this year’s event and they will be lined up along Main Street on Sunday.

“Our theme this year is ‘50 years of the Mustang,’” he said. A 2014 Mustang and earlier models going back to 1964 will be displayed, along with other classic cars.

In good weather, Wetsch said nearly 15,000 people have attended the two-day event, but added it is difficult to get a full count.

“It’s for anybody who loves cars,” he said. “You have tons of people walking Main Street in Mandan. We have vendors. We have good music and good food.”

It is free to the public except for the Saturday night dance and what people purchase from vendors or the beer garden, he said.

The car parade will begin 8 p.m. Saturday, starting at the Mandan Brave Center, will move down Sixth Avenue go east through the end of Main Street. About 100 classic cars are entered, Wetsch said.

Music Saturday will be performed by Over Education and Front Fender. Wetsch said the group will perform ‘50s and ‘60s music.

On Sunday, music will be performed by Brand X and Dirty Blonde. They play a diverse selection music from many eras, Wetsch said.

Owners of antique tractors also have been invited to display their models at the parking lot of the former Central Market store in Mandan.

“It’s nice way to spend a leisurely summer afternoon,” Wetsch said.

He credits Co-chairman Vern Cermak for organizing the entertainment and putting on the event.
