The Mandan Chiefs ended its summer 2013 season at the state tournament, following two consecutive losses.

Mandan, who came into the tournament with a 10th place seed at an 11-32 season record, first faced off against Jamestown in the opening round.

The Chiefs started the game off strong, as they got four runs on the board at the top of the first inning.

With Jerry Carlson on first via a walk, Parker Harm hit a double, which put Chiefs on second and third. Carlson then scored on a passed ball and Harm would score Mandan’s second run on a groundout by Logan McDowall.

Then with two outs, Trevor Leingang singled for Mandan, and Alex Weiand brought both himself and Leingang home with a two-run home run shot.

But after the first inning Jamestown dominated the remainder of the game, as it outscored Mandan 15 to 1 the rest of the way. They quickly answered with four runs of their own, as the Chiefs could not find a way to stop the offensive scoring of Jamestown, and fell in the game 15 to 5 after seven innings.

The loss put the Chiefs up against another first round losing team, the fifth seeded Minot Vistas.

The second game for Mandan would prove to be a game for the pitchers, as Chiefs starting pitcher Parker Harm allowed only six hits and threw for eight strikeouts in nearly eight full innings on the mound. After letting only one run score in the first, Harm kept Minot silent up until the eighth inning, when the Vistas brought two runs home.

But on the offensive end for Mandan, Minot pitcher Austin Bernston kept things quiet on the scoring front. Bernston struck out 18 batters, as Mandan was unable to score in the game, falling to Minot 3 to 0.

Harm also went 1-for-3 at the plate, while Weiand and Jared Walters delivered the other two hits for Mandan in the loss.
