Dan’s to buy Central Market
Dan’s Super Market plans to buy Central Market in Bismarck. Central Market’s Mandan location will close.
The purchase of the store at 1190 W. Turnpike Ave. is expected to be finalized by the end of the year, according to a statement. Central Market Chief Executive Officer Dan Neumeister deferred comment to Dan’s.
Mandan Central Market Store Manager Terry Elsberry said he does not know when the Mandan location will close. The Mandan store began as Bill’s Super Valu. There are 70 people employed at the store.
Central Market employees will have to re-apply for positions in the new Dan’s location. According to the statement, Dan’s wants to keep as many Central Market employees as possible.
The store will operate under the Dan’s name after the sale and remain open and fully staffed during the transition.
“Dan’s is committed to earning the trust, respect and patronage of former Central Market customers who can expect to see many familiar faces working in the store,” Dennis Bosch, Dan’s chief executive officer, said in a statement. “Dan’s views this as the ‘next chapter’ in meeting the grocery needs of shoppers in northwest Bismarck.”
Earlier this year, Dan’s announced plans to build a store in the Sunrise Town Center in northeast Bismarck, near the intersection of Centennial Road and Century Avenue. Construction will begin in the spring of 2014 with an expected opening date in late 2014.
There are no construction plans expected in Mandan at this time.
The purchase will give Dan’s five stores in Bismarck and Mandan once the new store is completed. Dan’s recently sold its two stores in Dickinson to SpartanNash Co.
