Growth Fund Committee getting two new members

The Mandan Growth Fund Committee on Jan. 3 recommended that Jeremy Bauer, an account manager for Coca Cola, and Curtis Patzell, who has 32 years of retail experience, including 23 years as a store manager for Wal-Mart in Bismarck, be appointed as its two newest members.

“These are interesting times in Mandan and I wanted to be a part of it,” Bauer said. When asked about Wal-Mart’s tax incentives, he said, “I would have liked to see something here that Bismarck didn’t have.”

Patzell said he is interested in doing things for Mandan and giving back to the community. “I think it is important to have some kind of vehicle that is able to generate sales tax dollars, but also jobs. I think there has to be a strong base and Wal-Mart provides that,” he said.

Other applicants include former Devils Lake Mayor Fred Bott and Matt Engel, who has a background in education. City Administrator Jim Neubauer said he was unable to reach Bott and Engel to appear before the committee on Jan. 3. The Mandan City Commission will make the final decision on who is appointed.

The Growth Fund Committee re-elected Tim Spilman as chairman and Mark Weide as its vice chairman.
