The Mandan FFA Chapter competed in a varied range of events at the 2013 North Dakota State FFA Convention. The 84th annual State FFA Convention was held at the NDSU campus and took place June 3 through June 7. This active week of FFA activities challenged the chapter’s members and taught them additional skills within their contests. Contests ranged from Agricultural Communications to Small Animal care. Results are as follows:

This year, a Mandan FFA member Macey Isaacs joined the State officer team taking the 2013-14 Parliamentarian title. Isaacs could only assume her title as parliamentarian after undergoing a week of questioning from the screening committee. Her accomplishment is derived from her hard work and dedication to the North Dakota FFA.

In addition to this accomplishment, Macey Isaacs and Kaylyn Hopfauf, another senior FFA member, were presented with the State FFA degree. Two more individuals that stood out in their individual contests were Renae Tokach and Audree Gifford. Gifford excelled in the Demonstration contest, placing fifth overall and receiving a gold award. Tokach not only placed fifth overall in the Prepared Public Speaking contest, but was also awarded with second place in the Dairy Handler contest.

Pious Thomas was awarded with a silver ribbon in the Basic Ag. Mechanics contest. Matt Smith placed seventh overall in Advanced Ag. Mechanics and received a gold recognition. When all the Ag. Mechanics scores were compiled the team received a bronze award for their performance.

The Dairy Foods team took home a silver recognition as they placed 14th out of 32 teams. Additionally, the Food Science team and the Meats Evaluation team finished with bronze awards for their performances. Likewise, the Horse Selection team placed 16th and also took home a bronze award.

Paige Fischer led the farm business team, taking gold individually, and as a team they were awarded with a high silver award. Similarly, the floriculture team and the Small Animal team members stood out at the convention receiving silver awards for their hard work and dedication.

In the Agricultural Communications contest, Mandan placed fourth out of 10 teams. Also, like the Communications team, the Mandan Nursery Landscape team and the Dairy Cattle Evaluation team both placed fourth and took home silver team ribbons.
