MHS Spanish department awarded grants
In support of their efforts to promote an understanding of quality art and cultural traditions, Mandan High School foreign language teachers applied for and were awarded $770 for an Artist-in-Residence grant and $300 for a Teacher Incentive grant by the North Dakota Council of the Arts.
These grants help to provide funds for a professional local artist, Ali LaRock, to assist students in creating authentic artwork as seen in Latin America. First level students created masks as are worn by the luchadores or masked wrestlers in Mexico, while upper level students created murals modeled after the three great muralists of Mexico, José Orozco, Diego Rivera and Alfaro Siquieros. Mandan High School Spanish teachers participating were Theresa Jennings, Michelle Lund and Amy Vetter.
