Oktober Fest features pumpkin decorating contest for all ages

Among attractions and activities planned for Mandan’s first annual Oktober Fest on Saturday, Sept. 28, is a pumpkin decorating contest. The contest has four age divisions: six and under, seven to 12, 13 to 18, and adults. Prizes will be awarded to at least the top three entries in each age division. Other special prizes may be awarded at judges’ discretion.

Pumpkins may be decorated through a variety of ways including, but not limited to, carving, painting and accessorizing.

Free pumpkins for the decorating contest will be available to first 100 participants up to age 12 from Sept. 23 to 27 or until the supply runs out at the MPO office, 411 W Main Street. The contest is being sponsored in part by Vanessa Masseth and Susie Q’s Craft Emporium.

Contestants should bring their decorated pumpkins to the craft tent in Dykshoorn Park on Sept. 28 between the hours of 8 and 10:30 a.m. All pumpkins need to be tagged with the entrant’s name, age, and phone number. Winners will be announced between 3:30 and 4 p.m. at the band shell. Participants may pick up their pumpkins between the hours of 5 and 6 p.m. Unclaimed pumpkins may remain on display in the park or at the MPO office.

Pumpkins will be displayed outdoors at Oktober Fest. Participants enter their pumpkin for display at their own risk. Oktober Fest organizers are not responsible for the loss, theft or damage to pumpkins.
