Police will be on the lookout for children wearing bike helmets
The summer, youth spotted wearing a helmet during appropriate summer activities could find themselves being treated to a free Dairy Queen ice cream by the Mandan Police Department.
For the reason that helmets save lives and reduce injuries, the AAA has partnered with the North Dakota Chiefs of Police Association, the North Dakota Sheriffs Association and Dairy Queen to create the “I Got Caught” program.
During the summer months, children across the state will be rewarded with a free DQ ice cream when spotted wearing a helmet while riding bike, skateboard, scooter or inline skates. When “caught,” law enforcement will “cite” the child by issuing them a mock ticket, which in actuality will be a coupon for a free small ice cream cone.
