Story brings together Teddy Roosevelt, airships and Mandan Parade

It’s nothing new to point out that President Teddy Roosevelt was a fan of adventure.

Mandan native and noted book author Kevin Kremer has brought both adventure and Roosevelt together in a new fashion – by way of a children’s book.

Kremer has recently published a new book, entitled, “Are You Smarter Than A Flying Teddy.”

This marks Kremer’s 10th published book. Kremer previously worked as a teacher in Mandan before moving to Sarasota, Fla., where he currently lives.

The story begins with nine precocious teens who call themselves Sarabiskota, who have been chosen as the grand marshals of the largest parade in the world, the Independence Day Parade in Mandan. The theme of the parade is “Teddy Roosevelt Returns to North Dakota,” and Sarabiskota decides to build a gigantic Flying Teddy airship, larger than the Statue of Liberty.

After it’s built in Florida, they plan to fly on board Flying Teddy from Florida to North Dakota. All during the trip, Flying Teddy will be asking people multiple choice questions about Teddy Roosevelt’s life. But danger lurks as two of the world’s top spies plan to steal Flying Teddy’s technology. The whole world gets involved in the adventure – and learns about Teddy Roosevelt’s life along the way.

The story, published by Kremer’s own publishing company, Snow in Sarasota Publishing, is a humorous tale that Kremer says is suited for readers ages 8 to 18.

In addition to being an adventurous story, Kremer says the story is valuable in its historical lessons on Roosevelt. “Besides being fun to read, it’s an excellent way for the whole family to learn about one of our greatest presidents, Teddy Roosevelt,” he says.

Kremer will be in Bismarck for a book signing event at Barnes & Noble Bookstore, located at 565 Seventh St. in Bismarck. The event will be held on Saturday, Dec. 16, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The 350-page book includes 30 illustrations by North Dakota artist Dave Ely, a self-taught artist from Bismarck. Besides illustrating books, he does custom wood carvings, bone sculptures and paintings.

Other books previously written by Kremer include “A Kremer Christmas Miracle,” “Santa’s Our Substitute Teacher,” “The Most Amazing Halloween Ever” and “Spaceship Over North Dakota.”

“Are You Smarter Than A Flying Teddy” is available in paperback for $8.99 in local bookstores, and as an e-book for $4.99. Personalized autographed copies of the paperback book are also available at FlyingTeddy.com.
