Taylor crowned Miss Rodeo Mandan, Horner named Princess

Danielle Taylor and Brianna Horner will serve as ambassadors for the 2014 Mandan Rodeo Days Celebration in their new roles as Miss Rodeo Mandan and Miss Rodeo Mandan Princess. The two were crowned during the Fourth of July professional rodeo in Mandan.

Taylor is the 19-year-old daughter of Marc and Dee AnnTaylor, of Mandan. She is a 2011 graduate of Mandan High School and is currently attending South Dakota State University in Brookings pursuing a degree in communications. Taylor’s activities include showing livestock, playing hockey, hunting and competing in roping and goat tying. She is a member of the Mandan Horse and Saddle Club, New Salem Saddle Club, SDSU Rodeo Club and SDSU women’s hockey.

Horner is the 11-year-old daughter of Lonnie and Vonda Horner, Bismarck. She will be a sixth grader in the fall at Apple Creek Elementary near Bismarck. Her hobbies include barrel racing, roping, pole bending, playing alto saxophone, drawing, working with and training horses that her family raises. Brianna is a member of the N.D. Junior High School Rodeo Association, National Barrel Horse Association and Mandan Horse and Saddle Club.

Taylor swept all categories in the pageant: horsemanship, personality and appearance. Megan Haag, Fredonia, was first runner-up. Contestants chose Jessica Pfliger, Mandan, for the congeniality award.

In the princess division, Horner also won all categories. Mckenzy Dean, Tioga, won first runner-up honors. The congeniality winner was Lakyn Bruhn, Blaisdell.

Among the many prizes awarded were a queen’s trophy saddle and a princess saddle, plus trophy buckles. Taylor also receives a $1,000 scholarship from the BSC Foundation.

Taylor and Horner will be asked to participate in speaking engagements on behalf of the Mandan Rodeo Committee, to assist at regional rodeos and to teach youth about the sport of rodeo and activities offered during Mandan Rodeo Days.
