The family of Staff Sgt. Elmer Gustafson, all of whom have served or are serving in the armed forces, represented their respective services during the Wreaths Across America ceremony on Dec. 14 at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery south of Mandan.

Each placed a ceremonial wreath for their branch on behalf of all veterans who served in that branch of the military.

After the ceremony, volunteers placed wreaths on the gravesites in the cemetery. It was the first time all gravesites displayed a wreath. More than 5,000 wreaths were sponsored this year.

For the seventh year, members of the Bismarck Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol, in cooperation with other CAP squadrons in North Dakota coordinated the ceremony and the sponsorship program to fund the wreaths.

A fellowship gathering at the Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park Commissary followed the wreath-laying.
