Locals win at 4-H Livestock Camp
The North Dakota 4-H camp hosted 4-H Livestock Camp the last week of May. Twenty four youth attended. The youth participated in a showmanship and quiz bowl contest.
Local winners of the contest included Sam Peterson, of Mandan, who placed third in the Junior Swine Showman competition, and Diane Schultz, of Almont, was presented the Hard Luck award.
The youth also enjoyed the camp mud pit, campfires, gaga ball and many other recreational activities. The youth also washed and clipped their animals while at camp.
Guest speakers at livestock camp were Lisa Pederson Beef Quality Assurance Specialist and Dr. Jerry Stokka, NDSU Extension Livestock Stewardship specialist. Pederson talked about vaccines and administration of shots. Dr. Stokka talked to the kids about stewardship of animals.
