Mandan Parade to attempt another world record
The Mandan Independence Day Parade & Street Festival will attempt to set a record for the World Longest Macarena Dance. The attempt will take place at 10 a.m. on July 4, on Main Street in Mandan. Parade co-chairs Dennis Friesz and Marlo Anderson said the committee will be ready to assist participants along Main Street. The committee is also prepared to use The Strip, in the event that more space is needed.
“Macarena” is a Spanish dance song by Los del Río about a woman of the same name. Appearing on the 1994 album “A mí me gusta,” it was an international hit between 1995 and 1996, and continues to have a cult following. One of the most iconic of 1990s dance music, it was ranked the No. 1 Greatest One-Hit Wonder of all Time by VH1 in 2002. The song ranks at No. 5 on Billboard’s All Time Top 100. It also ranks at No. 1 on Billboard’s All Time Latin Songs.
Mandan set a record for the world’s longest chicken dance on July 4, 2010. The World Record Academy officially verified the record on July 23. The chicken dance spanned 24 city blocks with a distance of 1.623 miles.
Mandan also set a record for the world’s largest Twist on July 4, 2011, and the world’s longest YMCA Dance on July 12, 2012.
