Mandan’s Berg wins at nationals
There were 108 bareback riders from the U.S., Canada and Australia who competed in the event.
Berg won the first round with a score of 77. Following, his second ride scored 66. It would be his final ride, which fetched 73 points, which would gain him the national title.
The last time this national award was won by a North Dakota bareback rider was in 1953, by Pete Fredricks of Halliday.
As an interesting side, the winner of this national award, preceding each North Dakota champion, was an individual from South Dakota.
