The Mandan Progress Organization is holding several holiday shopping celebration events throughout the city. One such event is the Holiday Decorating Contest for area businesses.

The MPO is asking local businesses to participate in the contest by decorating storefronts, interiors, exteriors, parking lots and everything in between.

Kristen Helmers, administrative assistant for Mandan Progress Organization said, “The MPO promotes this event annually to inspire the business community to help decorate the downtown area and promote a festive atmosphere to ultimately encourage small business shopping and bring people to Mandan to enjoy the holiday spirit.”

Last year the Harvest Brazilian Grill participated in the event but lost by a hair.

“This year we are coming back with a vengeance!” said Edgar Oliveira owner of the Harvest Brazilian Grill and Station West Bar and Grill.

Any business in the Mandan area is encouraged to participate, but needs to register with MPO through either a paper application, by calling 701-751-2983, emailing Helmers at, or by stopping at the MPO office found at 411 West Main Street.

The winners of the event will receive advertising packages offered as prizes for the best decorated stores in town. Decorations need to be up by Nov. 30, and stay up through December to participate.

Other holiday shopping events include the Santa’s Coming to Town event on Nov. 30, starting with Santa’s Parade at 10:45 a.m. and an opportunity to meet Santa at the Harvest Brazilian Grill from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Also sponsored by MPO is the Holiday Community Social and Business Showcase on Dec. 3, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Harvest Brazilian Grill with tickets $20 in advance or $25 at the door.
