The Bismarck-Mandan Elks Lodge recently donated its entire band library to the West River Winds Community Band. The lodge and 12 dignitaries who were instrumental in the donation were formally thanked during a ceremony at the band’s concert on Monday, June 18, at Dykshoorn Park.

The library consisting of 24 cartons of music, which was moved by Action Movers free of charge from the Elks Lodge to Eckroth Music, who stores the band’s library. The band’s director, Ernie Borr, said, “There are some real treasures – a lot of the 1940’s Military Band Journal Publications, some original arrangements by noted composers from that era. Some of this stuff is difficult beyond belief, hard to play and very hard to read, given the size, font, typesetting style, etc. This music is not for sissies, the ranges and facility required to play it would challenge good college level bands.” Borr added that the West River Winds Community Band have taken on that challenge, and are playing much of the material this year.
