Obituaries – December 15-21, 2012

Shirley Armbrust

Shirley (Egly) Armbrust, 86, Mandan, passed away Dec. 16, 2012, at Sanford Sunset Drive Care Center, Mandan.

Services were held Dec. 20 at First Lutheran Church, Mandan with the Rev. Jack Carlson officiating. Burial was at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

Shirley Ann (Egly) Armbrust was born Dec. 14, 1926, to John and Edna Egly. She was raised northwest of Belfield. She married Frank Armbrust on Jan. 3, 1948. They raised five daughters and two sons. Shirley was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and teacher. She taught in Stark, Slope and Billings counties for 25 years. Her passion in life was to be a memorable mentor and to make a difference in someone’s life. Shirley also worked alongside Frank on their ranch north of Belfield before moving south of Mandan.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Frank, Mandan; six children, Carol “Punky” (Tom) Alesi, Woodbury, Conn., Rocky Armbrust, Dickinson, Bonnie Armbrust (Roger), Mandan, Connie O’Brien, Belfield, Marlene (Steve) Tveito, Mandan, and Tammy (Greg) Metz, Roseville, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; and17 great-grandchildren.

Shirley was preceded in death by her daughter, Darlene; her son, Bucky; her parents; two brothers and one sister; and one granddaughter and one grandson.

Katharine Ereth

Mass of Christian Burial for Katharine (Avery) Ereth, 76, Fargo, formerly of Williston, was held Dec.. 19, 2012, at the Riverview Place chapel in Fargo. Burial was in the Schaffer cemetery at Watford City.

There will be a memorial service at 4 p.m. Jan. 2, 2013, at Everson Funeral Home, Williston.. Kathi died Dec. 16, 2012, at Sanford Palliative Care Center, Fargo.

Steven Knudson

Steven T. Knudson of Mandan, died at the age of 55 on Dec. 12, 2012, at his residence after a battle with cancer with his loving family by his side.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Dec. 15 at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Christopher Kadrmas as celebrant. Inurnment was at Mandan Union Cemetery on Dec. 17.

Steve was born May 16, 1957, to Gerald and Eleanor (Benson) Knudson in Mandan. He was raised and educated in Mandan, graduated from Mandan High School and continued his education at North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, majoring in graphic arts. He married Aggie Braun on Jan. 23, 1981, in Mandan.

Steve’s career at Crescent Printing started at the age of 12, working for his father. After college, he returned to Crescent Printing, eventually becoming the owner/operator. He became the third generation Knudson to run the local printing and retail business.

Steve taught himself to play the guitar and was an avid outdoor enthusiast. These activities included golfing, hunting and fishing. Steve and Aggie enjoyed traveling together. His sense of humor was evident in everything he did and he  possessed an uncanny ability to make new friends. Steve served on the board of the Girl Scouts and enjoyed being a member of the Mandan Lions Club.

He had an intuitive mechanical gift for fixing things, whether it was a motor in a car or a toaster. He mastered the art of sales, and really could sell anything – he once sold an entire old garage for a close friend. His favorite prayer was, “Thank you God for food, family, friends and fun.”

Steve will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Aggie; his daughter, Lindsey, Denver; his son, Brent and Kellee (fiancee), Minot; his parents, Gerald and Eleanor Knudson, Mandan; his mother-in-law, Lydia Braun, Mandan; and a swarm of loving siblings and in-laws, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Steve was preceded in death by a son, Brian Knudson; a sister, Mary Iszarelli; a brother, Hank; and a brother-in-law, David Philips.
