Ringing in the new school year with a bash
Mandan’s Outdoor Back to School Bash was held in the courtyard of Christ the King Church and School on Saturday, Aug. 25, to celebrate the beginning of the new school year and welcome Father Johnson to Christ the King.
Fun for the kids were three inflatables, where they could bounce in the balloon bouncer, climb and slide in an 31-foot obstacle course, or compete in the bungee run, where two players race down the 40-foot lane to see who can place the baton the farthest before being pulled back by the bungee.
Other events throughout the day were a three legged race, a sack race, apple bobbing and seeing how fast you could throw a softball.
The highlight of the day was the dunk tank, where Father Johnson and Mr. Barry, Christ the King School principal, each sat on their perch waiting for someone to hit the target and send them plunging into the water below.
For the adults, entertainment included a live stage that featured The Hungry 5 Band, a Japanese karate demonstration and the grand finale of live music by the band Jamaica Me Crazy.
The Knights of Columbus fed everyone with a menu that included ribs, pulled pork sandwiches, hot dogs, baked beans, coleslaw, and watermelon. The PTO and Christian Mothers had dessert covered with ice cream treats from PTO and pie and ice cream from the Christian Mothers. The student body also had a Candy Shoppe, with cotton candy and other sweets for sale.
