Two close games, two tough losses for the Mandan Chiefs on Tuesday.
Tyler Straus of Grand Forks won a pitchers’ duel with Jared Walters 2-1 in the first game of a Legion baseball doubleheader. The host Royals outslugged Mandan 9-7 in a 20-hit nightcap.
Both games counted in the statewide standings. Grand Forks improved to 9-1 statewide and Mandan dropped to 2-4. Mandan moves on to play Fargo Post 2 in a 3 p.m. statewide twin bill today.

Ryan Hamilton held Mandan to one unearned run on six hits as Spearfish, S.D., defeated the Chiefs on Friday in the Minot Qdob’s Legion baseball tournament.
Daulton Johnson had two hits for Spearfish in the victory.
Trever Leingang and Parker Harm each had a pair of hits for the Chiefs.
Hamilton picked up the win for Spearfish, while Ty Leingang took the loss for Mandan.
The Chiefs will take on Watford City today, and will square off with Richland County and Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, on Sunday.

Dickinson broke open a tie game with four runs in the eighth inning en route to a 9-7 Legion baseball victory at Mandan on Tuesday.
The victory pushed Dickinson to 7-2 in the statewide standings. Mandan dropped to 2-7 statewide.
Lucas Jones’ two-run double was the key shot in the Roughriders’ decisive eighth-inning rally. Luke Herauf singled home a run and Alex Huschka squeezed home the final tally.
Logan McDowall rapped two hits and knocked in three runs for Mandan.
