West River students explore dairy farm
West River Head Start, the teachers like to take their classroom learning outside as much as possible.
On Feb. 7, Miss Jenn and Cassie’s classes took a field trip to Boehm’s Dri-Land Dairy Farm northwest of Mandan. The children were not only able to see but also touch many animals that they had been learning about in the classroom. In addition to an extremely large pig named “Barbie,” students also got to see several chickens, calves and heifer cows. The children were able to see all of these animals in their natural environment, learn how the heifer cows were milked, and where the milk goes until a truck comes to pick it up for bottling for our kitchen tables.
